Here is another project that was given to me by a good friend. It's fairly complete but definitely in need of some love. I've included some before pictures and some of my progress so far.
I started by cleaning it up a little and since then I've got it running. I had to do some work to the ignition system and the carbs. The bike had not been run since about 1979. I've also started going through the electrical system to get everything working. My goal is to restore it to stock condition so I can get collector plates on it.
Before

New Forum

I am looking forward to this new forum.. Great idea by Jim Simmons and WoodWizard.

During times like these, working men ( and women ) can't afford to be buying new tools all the time. Especially when some things are as easy to fix as new brushes on that old drill.

Then again.. Sometimes a Factory Refurbished is cheap enough and less hassle if you get in over your head.

I'm looking for some great ideas for fun, small-shop projects. While I may not have a lot of tools, I can work around that lack with some good old American ingenuity.

Think of it as a great way to make beginner project suggestions to help out folks who may lack imagination. I'll admit it...that's folks like me.

Thanks!

Driving stakes/rebar with an air hammer

Hi,

I've got an air hammer, and I'm wondering if they make a ground rod driving bit similar to the bit they make for demolition hammers.

Here's one:
https://www.expresstools.com/Bosch-HS2172-G...-Steel-Bit.aspx

The head of the bit is hollow, so it fits over top of the rebar or stake you're driving. This prevents it from slipping off while you drive it into place.

Is there a similar driving bit for an air hammer? I haven't been able to find anything.

-Josh

bathtub valve

typically, the cap comes off and the retainer ring is pulled off. the valve should come right out with a tug. mine will not. the name brand is unknown. was bought at menards tho... i cannot tell if there is a special deep well tool i need or is this just stubborn? i have pulled hard on the cartridge valve but worry that i will get a bigger project if i pull too hard. my question is: is there a special tool that i am not aware of or am i just not pulling on it hard enough... thanks in advance..............jmb001

Spiral vs Straight Knife Cutterheads

Ah, the age old question when it comes time to purchase a jointer/planer machine.

I am in the market to purchase a jointer/planer combo machine and I would like to get your opinions to help me decide if I should go with the machine that offers a 3-straight knife cutterhead or plunk down the extra $600+ and purchase the machine with the spiral cutterhead. I am looking at the Grizzly G0633 and G0634 machines.

- Is the spiral cutterhead really worth the extra cash? If yes, why?

If anyone has any opinions and/or experience on this topic, it would be much appreciated if you could help shed some light on this decision I am wrestling with at the moment.

Thanks!
Matt
Austin, Tx
